And it's not easy to get to Chicago from Streamwood! (I had cousins there - we lived in Rogers Park.) What's the era in which this all took place? Sounds like the 70s to me :-)
The Courier News, based in Elgin. I also covered Bartlett, which was more controversial at the time. Streamwood had been very controversial a few years before I came on the scene (a lot of local political intrigue in both cases). My Streamwood history was part of what led me to covering Frank Capaci's Powerball win in '98---that plot centered on a Streamwood bar where the bartenders had purchased the tickets for Frank and other patrons. I wrote about that over on my Substack back in May.
I was a paperboy for the courier. There was a chunk of this piece about it but I edited it out

Great piece of writing. Beautiful snapshot of a time and place.
Wonderful vignettes, Matt. I covered Streamwood in the early 90s, so some nostalgia for me also.
Who did you cover it for? Thankfully I was in chicago by the 90s.
